The Business of Medicine

What is the definition of a successful medical practice?  Obviously patients seek physicians that excel at their craft and have access to the latest updates in treatment options and technology. They want a doctor who listens as well as prescribes, who has convenient office hours and a staff that is reliable and courteous.
Patients want a return phone call and timely refills for their prescription requests.

Do these criteria guarantee success?  Unfortunately, for many doctors, despite their best efforts, the answer is a resounding NO!

In today's ever changing, always challenging climate of medicine, too many doctors excel at their specialty, yet year after year fail to achieve their financial goals.  The fact is that more doctors than ever before are expressing dissatisfaction with their career choice and abandoning the idea of private practice in record numbers.

In the next 20 years, seventy-eight million Americans will reach retirement age, bringing with it all the assorted varieties of age related ailments.  For doctors and health care associates all over our country, this news should symbolize the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.  Still there remains a pervasive atmosphere of gloom and doom....

For the past sixteen years, I have been managing and marketing successful medical practices in the greater New York area.  I have been honored to work with some of the best clinicians in a number of specialties and have consulted with countless physicians.

My hope is to guide physicians to a sure formula for a successful practice and give them the tools that are not taught in medical school, residency, or fellowship.  The tools are easy to master and and involve a dedication to organization and a willingness to get involved in the business of medicine.
In the blogs to follow, I will guide you through the steps that will help to insure that your medical practice will be personally and financially rewarding.
